Sydney electronic artist Lupa J is proud to release her latest single “Keep Back”, giving us the first taste of her upcoming EP A HOUSE I DON’T REMEMBER, due for release later this year. The track arrives ahead of a series of headline shows beginning August 30 in Sydney and Melbourne on September 1, before she performs at Brisbane’s BIGSOUND.

Premiered on triple j on Tuesday night, “Keep Back” features Lupa J’s trademark driving electronic bass and drums, exhilarating swirling vocals and strings. Diving deeper into club-land than on previous releases, the track explores the ties that bind her to a needy friend.

.

“I wrote Keep Back after recognising a recurring pattern in my personal relationships & friendships where I would often end up giving all of myself to emotionally needy people, and in turn let my own issues slip by the wayside. It’s about realising that I’m the common element of it all – that maybe I throw myself into other people’s problems as a way to stay distracted. So I wrote myself as this manipulative, vampiric persona that draws people in to hurt me then flips the blame back on them – a kind of twisted but serious parody of myself.”

Alongside the single release, Lupa J has spoiled us with a new video for “Keep Back”, which fans can dive into today. Self-directed, and created in collaboration with long-time video collaborator and filmmaker Kathy Drayton, the video for “Keep Back” sets a different visual pace from Lupa J’s previous offerings.

Following the success of supporting K Flay across Australia earlier this year, Lupa J and her band, consisting of friends and fellow producers Nathan Moas (Lang Systems) on drums, and Mara Schwerdfeger on violin/viola, “Keep Back” live shows will see them preview new tracks from the upcoming EP A HOUSE I DON’T REMEMBER
