Unveil Sophomore Album
‘SELF HELP’

Beloved Brisbane band Bugs are thrilled to release their long-awaited second album, ‘Self Help’. Already making major waves with the album’s lead-in single – ‘Seriously’ premiered on triple j before being added to rotation – ‘Self Help’ is the band at their sonic and lyrical best.

The release comes ahead of the trio’s upcoming appearance at Yours & Owls festival, plus dates with Aussie legends Grinspoon next month, to be followed by a headline national tour in support of ‘Self Help’ in November.

‘Self Help’ allows Bugs to grow their melodic wings and explore unforeseen layers of vulnerability and candor. Growth is rarely painless, and ‘Self Help’ seeks to traverse the uncharted terrain of self-improvement and emotional maturation.

“We’ve poured a lot of our hearts into this labour of love and are quite proud of what we’ve achieved together, front man Connor Brooker says of ‘Self Help’“It explores a range of themes in a relatively introspective manner. The songs are intimately connected to personal experiences, but we wanted the core principal of the record to be relatable across a broad demographic of people.”

‘Self Help’ toes a delicate line, that of maintaining the band’s signature flavours of self-deprecation, whilst leaving room to reveal a more introspective side.

“A recurring rhetoric of self-questioning chaos, the album serves as a track-by-track reminder that analysing the way your actions affect the world around you can lead to profound growth,” reflects Brooker. “Feeling the spectrum of emotions associated with this process is necessary to truly benefit from it and adds to the highs & lows narrative style of our writing.”

‘Self Help’ was recorded, mixed, and produced by the band’s own Brock Weston at Brisbane’s Bedlam Records, and mastered by Tyson Ruth at Studio Truth.

Hailing from Brisbane, Bugs are a light-hearted group of mates who find joy in crafting infectiously happy pop music and packaging it up with a dose of honest and relatable songwriting.

In 2018 the band scored an opening slot at Falls Festival after a triple j unearthed win, as well as supporting USA legends Cloud Nothings, and Aussie heavyweights British India, The Hard Aches, Alex Lahey & WAAX. Off the back of their grippingly honest millennial fan-favourite ‘Neighbourhood’, the band also delivered their engaging and animated live show to crowds at Mountain Goat Valley Crawl and Melbourne Music Week.

That year saw the release of instant hit ‘Glue’ via the renowned Domestic LaLa 7″ Club. Following back-to-back plays on triple j, the triple j Unearthed-premiered clip for ‘Glue’ raked in the love, with over 110k+ views and counting.

In April 2018 Bugs released their EP ‘Social Slump’, and embarked on a huge national tour throughout May and June that took them to almost every corner of the country, selling out dates in Brisbane, Melbourne Sydney, Adelaide and Wollongong.

Packed-out sets at BIGSOUND followed suit, including an appearance at the Levi’s Music Prize showcase, before hitting the stage at Beer InCider festival alongside the likes of fellow Brisbanites The Jungle Giants, Morning Harvey, and Sweater Curse.

Following the release of late-2018 single ‘Sweetener’, 2019 has cemented the band’s status as one of the most beloved emerging acts in the country. The release of single ‘Safe Place’ ticked off another triple j premiere, and lead into an appearance at Farmer & the Owl festival, as well as their anticipated ‘Sweetener’ tour which saw the band sell out their biggest hometown show to date at Woolly Mammoth, and pack out shows in Melbourne, Sydney, and Adelaide.

The band’s last single, the poignant and emotive ‘Something’s Bound To Go Bad’, scored a premiere on triple j Good Nights and showed a softer side to their upcoming record, leading to Bugs selling out their vinyl pre-order and receiving praise from the likes of triple j, Unearthed, and Sydney Morning Herald.

Current track ‘Seriously’ is spinning on a well-deserved triple j high rotation add, plus the announcement of the band’s upcoming support with Aussie legends Grinspoon followed by a national headline tour, sees the band take an impressive step into their sophomore album ‘Self Help’, out now.
