Pop music pioneers Charli XCX and Troye Sivan have unveiled their new single 1999 (listen here), marking the pop collaboration of the year! The release of 1999 follows a defining year for Charli, the future pop mastermind after a string of celebrated 2018 releases, and Sivan, who is fresh off the release of his sophomore album, Bloom, which was awarded four stars by Rolling Stone and has already racked up more than 700 million cumulative streams.

A bass-laced juggernaut beaming with nostalgia, 1999 binds Charli’s commercial intellect with her innovative instincts, feeling as infectious as it does rebellious. Heralded as one of the most exciting and forward-thinking ambassadors of pop at every turn, Charli penned 1999 with Sivan – who is also featured on vocals – and the single’s accompanying writers Noonie Bao, Brett McLaughlin, and Oscar Holter, who also produced the track.

The release of 1999 follows a whirlwind year for Charli XCX. Continuing her stint on Taylor Swift’s global ‘Reputation Tour’ in the US & UK and with forthcoming dates in Australia, the trailblazer released a flow of music over the recent months – 5 in the Morning, No Angel, Focus and Girls Night Out – which, alongside her electrifying, critically-acclaimed sold out mixtape shows, were hotly received by her devoted fanbase and media alike, firmly confirming her status as one of the world’s most essential stars in pop’s rainbow spectrum. Most recently, in her true entrepreneurial spirit, XCX unveiled a radio documentary for BBC World Service. Shadowing her in the studio and at recent performances in London, journalist, Kate Mossman, explored Charli’s duality as both a songwriter and performer with exclusive behind-the-scenes access.This marked her second documentary for the BBC, succeeding her thought-provoking ‘The F Word and Me’ – a film focusing on gender equality in the music industry, released in 2015.

Charlotte Aitchison, aka Charli XCX, has fast become one of the hottest creators of her generation and is the award-winning talent behind the ARIA multi-platinum Fancyand I Love It and ARIA double platinum Boom Clap. In 2017, she bookended the year with her ground-breaking, critically-acclaimed mixtapes Number 1 Angel and Pop 2, featured on David Guetta and Afrojack’s global smash and ARIA platinum Dirty Sexy Money and released her standout crush anthem and ARIA gold, Boys. On the latter, Charli took full creative control across casting, directing and producing the accompanying official video, which not only saw her flip the traditional male gaze on its head, but featured an all-star male cast including Stormzy, Mark Ronson, Diplo, Joe Jonas, Brendon Urie, Riz Ahmed + more, with Charli XCX hailed as a paragon of progressiveness off the back of its release. To date, the official video has received 93 million streams.

Troye Sivan was recently hailed as “the Perfect Pop Star for 2018” by TIME, which pronounced his new album, Bloom (Capitol Records), as “a major artistic achievement.” He has appeared on the covers of such publications as Rolling Stone, The New York Times’ Sunday Arts & Leisure section and Out. His numerous awards include a Billboard Music Award, three MTV EMA’s and two GLAAD Media Awards. Troye’s 2015 debut album, Blue Neighbourhood, topped the iTunes charts in 66 countries and has sold more than 2.5 million adjusted albums worldwide.

Charli XCX has won multiple awards including 2 x Sesac ‘Songwriter of the Year’ Awards, 2 x Billboard Awards & 1 x YouTube Music Award, alongside nominations at the Grammy’s, BRIT Awards and MTV EMA’s. Not to mention the studio time she’s commanded with the likes of Blondie, Selena Gomez
