Mountain Sounds 2018 was certainly one for the ages. To celebrate the festival’s fifth birthday in style, organisers introduced the new two-day format (two days/three nights) and introduced the lush Mount Penang Gardens for the first time.
The weekend boasted some of the biggest names in Australian music as well as some huge international stars. Amy Shark wooed the crowd with an unforgettable twilight set on Friday, followed by an electric performance from the one and only Gang Of Youths. The second day was brought home by a slew of high-octane acts including Grouplove (USA), Safia and Peking Duk, showing the festivals versatility.
The shift to the two-day format proved to be a hit as close to 20,000 fans climbed the mountain across the two days – well and truly proving the festival has now outgrown its ‘boutique’ title.
Now, the festival is ready to announce the dates for 2019, returning bigger, better and weirder for its sixth instalment. Mountain Sounds 2019 will continue the two-day/three night format with music, art and live activations on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th of February. Watch out for the full line-up dropping in a couple of weeks (though there may be a hint latent in the video teaser below).
Since its inception in 2014, Mountain Sounds has gone from strength to strength. They’ve boasted stellar domestic acts like Gang Of Youths, Amy Shark, Peking Duk, RÜFÜS, DMA’s, Ball Park Music, Dune Rats, Violent Soho, Alison Wonderland, DZ Deathrays, Tkay Maidza and Safia with internationals like Albert Hammond Jr (The Strokes) and Grouplove.
