Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the song writing bug?
I always wanted to be an anime cartoonist or painter as a kid, I used to spend hours sketching in front of the tv, drawing my favourite characters from cartoons. Music was always present in my life as my parents were big listeners. I switched over to creating music in high school as I was trying to find my identity and I found a home in hip hop.

How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
Bouncy, High Energy, Upbeat and Honest. I think people resonate with my music because it’s raw authentic and me. I keep it 3000. I also just make fun music which makes people want to dance.

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
Live performance wise I always watch Travis Scott performances. The guy is just a different beast when performing. His energy is unparalleled and is easily one of the best to ever do it. Kendrick Lamar’s live performances inspire me a lot too. I watched the big steppers tour in Perth and the theatrics of it were some of the best I’ve ever seen. I also love musical theatre, I saw Mary Poppins recently and the way the show was constructed was so intricate and organised, with a lot of different moving pieces. It gave me a lot of ideas for my own live set. In terms of Australian acts, guys like Genesis Owusu and Young Franco really inspire me. They’re live sets are so memorable. Young Franco is great at throwing a party.

Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I’m performing at Spilt Milk which is going to be pretty large, I’ve got a song coming out with Boo Seeka, A track produced by Tentendo on my ep and my next single Senna is around the corner. Stay tuned!

How has COVID affected you to date? What have you introduced to balance the losses from missed events?
COVID hasn’t really affected me music wise! I got back into music after the worst of covid had passed. Besides catching it after SXSW I’ve been relatively unaffected.

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
KAYTRANADA cause our sounds go hand in hand. We’d throw a mean party.

Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist?
To turn CHISEKO into an empire. My two big goals are to play at Coachella and to headline Splendour in the Grass and then to make music a consistent and sustainable source of income. I’m almost certain it’s within my capabilities.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
I love it when the fans react well to songs they’ve never heard. We’ve had a few experiences where fans have started singing lyrics back to us after only hearing a song once. My other favourite thing is seeing familiar faces at multiple shows. My career highlight is definitely playing at Spilt Milk but it seems as though every time we have a career highlight a new one pops up not long after, so stay tuned.

Finally, a few questions for some quick answers –
FAVOURITE:
Album – It changes almost weekly but if I had to pick an absolute favourite it would be Good Kid, M.a.a.d City by Kendrick Lamar.
Artist – Again it changes on a weekly basis. Right now I don’t really have a favourite but if I absolutely had to pick it would be The Notorious BIG.
Movie – Inglorious Bastards or Django Unchained. Tarantino is my favourite director of all time and I’m obsessed with both modern and ancient history. So, these two films tick a lot of boxes for me.
Place to visit – Basel, Switzerland
Venue to play – The Rechabite, Perth or Si Paradiso, Perth
Food – Anything my mum cooks. My favourites being Fish in foil and Osso Bucco.
Drink – TEQUILA or Gin & Tonic
Person in History – I tend to listen to a lot of podcasts about bad people throughout history and not a lot about “good” people, so I don’t really have one. I try not to put people on a pedestal because we all have good and bad aspects of our personalities. Some of the greatest people to ever live may not necessarily have been good people but are great by virtue of their impact during their time and may have had some admirable traits amidst a host of bad ones. So, I don’t know if I can comfortably answer this.
Tattoo – I only have one tattoo, it says “Classic” on my wrist in the cursive font from old Porsche’s. I’m an old soul so it’s fitting.
