What sets you apart from other bands/artists in your genre?
There’s only one ‘Courtney Keil’, so I just aim to be my authentic self!

Your new single ‘All About You’ has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
It’s an energetic feel-good, up tempo country love song. I had the opportunity to write this with my amazing producer Rod McCormack and my dear Nashville-based songwriting buddy Sally Barris. We set out to write an anthemic, feel good song. As songwriters it’s often naturally easier to write slower heartbreak songs so we wanted to focus on the love I have in my life and how it makes me feel. We tapped into some of the contradictions about me as a person and finding ‘the one’ that makes you feel sure of everything else. I wanted it to keep an authentic country twang.

Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
Absolutely! It’s hard to believe it has already been a year since my debut album was released, so it’s been great working on some new music, starting a new chapter. I have lots to say and some new tracks unwraps so can’t wait to share more soon!

Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I have some cool shows on the radar this year, but really looking forward to opening for Brian Cadd at Avoca Beach Theatre on Saturday 24 February, along with one of my ‘Fierce & Fearless’ shows alongside Bonnie Kellett at Laycock Theatre, Gosford on 13 April. For something completely different, I am teaming up with Comedian Darren Sanders for ‘The Comedian & The Cowgirl’ on 3 May at Lizotte’s Newcastle.

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
I can’t help but always say Johnny & June, it would be such an incredible experience to be in their presence and perform with them.

With that in mind, what piece of advice would you give to an artist starting out?
Choose your tribe wisely, find people that genuinely care about you and your career. When times are tough and you’re feeling a bit down, these are the people you will lean on, and when you need honest advice or feedback, you know you can turn to them.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
It’s all about connection, getting to share those special moments with the audience through music. Finding unity is always the coolest part.
