The Transits.

How did the band come together? Is there someone who is a “driving force,” or do you all make decisions together?
The three of us have a long history together, having started playing together at 15 years old and racking up many hours performing in the same room. Fast forward to late 2022, we began reminiscing about the songs we’d written all those years ago, which prompted the question, “What would we sound like today?” And voilà, The Transits was born, and we dove headfirst into new songs without slowing down since.
I wouldn’t say there’s specifically someone who is the ‘driving force’ in the band, but we all play a certain role outside of our instruments. We’re a very self-contained band and creative as individuals. Ryan, for instance, is our lead songwriter, Tyrone handles a lot of our media outreach and playlists, and I work on our music videos, social media, and manage the band.
Decisions are usually made with a majority rules approach.

How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
Our sound is a mix of all our favourite genres. While we share a love for many of the same bands, our varied tastes add to our sound.
It’s hard to encapsulate in a simple answer, but I’d say it’s Punk Rock infused with indie and synth-pop. Our sound has been described as both a nod to eras gone by and as fresh and modern. I believe people appreciate it for that reason. It’s also very upbeat and plays between light and shade in a cool way.

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
Currently, we’re big fans of Petey, Kenny Hoopla, and, of course, the new Blink 182 album, which is fantastic. We also love Dear Seattle and Luca Brasi from Australia. If we’re talking old school, we love anything from Depeche Mode and Fountains of Wayne to The Pixies.

Your new single has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
“Heartbreak Queen” is our new song and the lead single off our debut album. It embodies the start of that journey, reflecting on youthful relationships and their rollercoaster nature. It has a driving narrative peppered with high energy and infectious riffs. Check out the music video on our YouTube Channel, featuring the band dressed as crash test dummies—a visual metaphor for how bruised and battered we can get in life.

What are the signature tracks, and which is your favourite?
Choosing a favourite is tough—it’s like asking which of your children is your favourite. It depends on my mood. The album flows through different styles intentionally, as we don’t want to be pigeonholed into one genre. But to answer your question, my current favourites are “When You Went Away,” with its breezy synth-laden verse and punchy chorus, “Into Unknown,” for its nostalgic lyrics, and “Lost Ones,” which is heavily influenced by ’80s horror. Be sure to check out our short film for “Lost Ones,” especially if you’re a fan of vampires and skateboarding.

Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
We still have two more music videos to drop that support our new album, including one we filmed in Bulgaria for the song ‘No solution’. We’re also already writing songs for Album 2. We’re very prolific and loving it.

If you could perform with any music artist, alive or dead, who would you choose? And why?
Tough choice, but I’d say Nirvana. I’d love to watch that show from the side of the stage and soak in the raw power and energy.

What are your long-term aspirations as a music artist, and how are you progressing towards them?
Our goals are to keep building our growing fan base. It amazes us how far and wide our fan base reaches, currently gaining hundreds of followers out of Brazil. We’re very grateful. Otherwise, it’s all about working hard, putting out music and music videos. Stay tuned.

With that in mind, what piece of advice would you give to an artist starting out?
Write for yourselves, not for what you think will do well on the charts or radio. It should be fun first and foremost. You will find genuine fans by sticking to your guns and believing in what you do without outside interference.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
The highlights of playing live include the moments when the connection and chemistry with the audience are just right, creating an electric atmosphere. Additionally, watching your fanbase grow is incredibly rewarding.
