“If only we could fly” ….

Nu-Metal juggernaut’s, Limp Bizkit, are currently on Aussie soil playing Good Things Festival up the East Coast + some select Side Shows. Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley Music Hall was the scene for an eagerly awaited Sold Out Sideshow that promised a raucous night of Heaviness. We were there.

Opening up the night was Zheani. Taking to the stage solo, in front of a packed to the rafters Limp Bizkit crowd, took some balls. To be fair, I’m not sure the crowd really got Zheani’s brand of Rap & Beats. Still, she persisted & played a 45 min set.

Limp Bizkit walked out onstage at 9:15pm & launched into Dirty Rotten Bizkit from their most recent album Still Sucks. Main Man Fred Durst prowling the stage in a hoodie with traditional Baseball Cap on. The reception from the crowd was manic. The band sound Massive. Next, they hit everyone with a one – two punch, playing Show Me What You Got, followed by 9 Teen 90 Nine. Wes Borland, sporting his new theatrical look, hooked in with an onslaught of guitar playing that beggared belief. Energetically moving around the stage, his tone was to die for.

The hits just kept coming, with Hot Dog, Rollin’, My Way & My Generation ensuring a slew of bodies poured over the Barrier at front of stage. Brisbane’s heavy music crowd were now in full “go mode”. Fred Durst made sure to slow things down at times & remind the crowd to look after one another. “If somebody goes down, make sure you pick em up guys.”… “I see what’s happening out there.”

The rhythm section of Sam Rivers on Bass & powerhouse Drummer John Otto really hold this band together like glue. Obviously, a well-oiled touring band this far into their career, Limp Bizkit deliver the goods. A great version of Full Nelson from Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavoured Water album was quickly followed up with Re-Arranged from Significant Other, to slow the pace for a minute.

Take A Look Around gets a run of course, followed by a track I wasn’t anticipating, Boiler, to once again give the masses a chance to take a breath. They throw in a Rage Against The Machine cover (KITNO) & head for the finish line with roaring renditions of fan favourites Faith & Break Stuff to close.

What a gig! Limp Bizkit tore the roof off Fortitude Music Hall. I’m not sure that venue will ever be the same. Those that witnessed it, will remember this one for a while.
