This unique all female “pussy powered” Cabaret opened with our hostess Vivienne Starr, somehow still sexy in her dressing gown, ugg boots, fishnets and tattoos and most importantly her friendly comedic banter.   She requests that no one videos or takes pictures during the performance and we soon find out why.

The first act takes us straight into a very serious, but consensual, bondage routine. Think bruising spanking and dripping hot wax act with two robust voluptuous women. What are we in for? Where is this night going? were my thoughts! It had taken no time to move from gently ribald sexual comedy to some very serious, albeit consenting, fetish.  The promo had promised that the show would move from 0 to 100 quickly and it sure does!

The rest of the show took on a naughty more light hearted comedic vibe. I particularly loved reverse drag artist Sean DownUnder’s mimed songs and dancing to the subtly titled ‘When I Jerk Off’. It was hilarious!

The cabaret moves on with various artists performing either burlesque or light fetish or comedy. I was hoping Sean DownUnder would make a return and he did with an equally funny second number. Other favourites on the night was an alternative Nun being tempted by a very large cucumber and a burlesque routine in the style of I Love Lucy cooking show with a difference.

Vivienne does a good job of linking all the acts together. She maintains a comfortable comic vibe and makes sure she has the crowd’s consent when it is needed. To close out the night she leads the final segment with a crowd participation sing along to Khia’s ‘My Neck, My Back (Lick It)’. If you’re not familiar with the song rest assured that the lyrics are suitably shocking and the best part of the comedy is seeing who is willing to join in with them. If I can suggest you learn the chorus and belt it out as loud as you can, you’ll have the best time if you do.

Liquored Up Late had 3 more shows before it closed on March 3rd when they returned to Queensland. I suggest you go see it if you ever get the chance.
