As someone who first saw Tom Jones as a teenager, and again at Bluesfest 2016, with the legendary Blind Boys of Alabama supporting him, I can attest that his magic on stage has only grown stronger with time. Back this year at Bluesfest, Byron Bay, he has proven once again why he’s an enduring icon of the music industry.

From the moment he stepped onto the Crossroads stage, it was clear that the audience was in for a treat. At 83 years young, the legendary singer took to the stage with the same vigour and charisma that has defined a career that spans over six decades.

Opening the show with the poignant “I’m Getting Old,” Jones immediately connected with the audience on a personal level. It was a moment of reflection, a testament to his enduring relevance and honesty as an artist. The crowd, a mix of long-time fans and newer admirers, was captivated from the first note.

Of course, no Tom Jones concert would be complete without the timeless classic “It’s Not Unusual.” As soon as those familiar notes filled the air, the audience joined in and sang along. It was a reminder of the lasting impact his music has had, transcending generations and genres.
