Red Bull Music today announces a stellar line-up of supports due to appear before spiritual jazz guru Lonnie Liston Smith, when he makes his first-ever Australian visit to Sydney and Melbourne in August.

From the Overseas Passenger Terminal’s Cargo Hall in Sydney on Thursday, August 23 – a unique warehouse space featuring floor-to-ceiling water views – Lonnie Liston Smith (US) will be bringing his 40-year-strong legacy to Red Bull Music Presents for an evening of enlightening, cosmic and modern jazz. Supporting him on the night is live future jazz act Foshe, the humid atmospherics of Ken Oath Records two-piece and instrumentalists Angophora, as well as renowned Sydney DJ and Midnight Swim label resident, Mike Who.

Following a visit to harbourside Sydney, Smith will venture to Melbourne’s Night Cat on Saturday, August 25 to continue his reigning prowess in the field of cosmic, soul-elevating jazz. Leading the star-aligning affair of supports will be Melbourne’s Mandarin Dreams, an art-based music collective performing across a myriad of instruments and featuring members of Hiatus Kaiyote, Swooping Duck alongside Silent Jay and Jace XL. Joining them will be Grammy nominated ARIA award-winning jazz pianist and composer, Barney McAll, Crown Ruler family DJ, Lori and PBS Radio favourite Shio who presents the station’s weekly jazz-focused program Eternal Rhythm.

Having worked alongside pioneers of the genre including Miles Davis, Pharaoh Sanders and Roland Kirk, Lonnie Liston Smith not only has an enduring influence among his peers, but his work continues to be an important backbone for sampling amid the world’s hip-hop community. Featured across hits from Jay-Z and Nas, to today’s new breed including Vince Staples and Joey Badass, Smith’s music and collaborations appear on over 230 tracks to date.

Red Bull Music will take over Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal for two consecutive nights, and Melbourne’s The Night Cat for one, culminating in a three-day celebration of musical collaboration and genre-pushing sounds, as Smith appears ahead of a hometown performance from Sydney’s hip-hop hero, Manu Crook$. Don’t miss attending Red Bull Music Presents in August, when some of the brightest minds, and leaders of tomorrow’s sound cross paths for a visionary run of live music and performance.
