“Mad dudes often write songs about women for dudes; I’ve always found that weird as fuck. It also means a lot of love songs don’t mirror my experience. I wanted to write a song for my girl. I wanted to create a song that takes you out of the real world and into that fantasy bubble, reminiscent of a high with no comedown. New love.” – Remi

Beloved hip-hop duo REMI return today with latest single “Brain” feat. Lori, out today via House of Beige Records. Marking their first hip-hop ballad, the track arrives ahead of their November tour, where they will treat Darwin, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane to their renowned live show and taste of new music to come.

“Brain” bumps from the get-go, featuring the velvety R&B-led vocals of Melbourne’s Lori (Mandarin Dreams). Remi’s astute verses splay between in a swung rhythm, as delicate high-end keys (courtesy of Simon Mavin from Hiatus Kaiyote) play out over Sensible J’s organic beats, making “Brain” one of the pair’s most poignant, slow-jams yet. In the lead up to the release, Remi took to his socials to share his 7 Days of Love Making Through Song playlist – episode one kicked off here.

Remi says on the track,“Sensible J suggested we make ‘Brain’ a rap duet. So, we got Lori. I feel super blessed to know Lori and call her my sister. In the studio, she knows what you’re thinking before you even ask. Clearly her voice is ridiculous but her use of tone, harmony and all-round ability to insert herself into a track is second to none. She came through. Spit the verse. Laid the hook. Blew us away.

Finally, to lay the sprinkles on it, we called the sauce himself. Simon Mavin. If you know me, you know Simon is my favourite keys player alive. Hands down. We went through to his studio to get him to play a few joints for the record. We played him the song. He did a piano solo worthy of Recital Centres and $100 tickets, then told us to do what we want with it. I love that shit. He’s a true teacher. He’ll give you a loose outline of what he’s thinking, but then you’ve gotta piece the puzzle together. We did.”

“Brain” follows the duo’s recent release, “5 A.M.”, a synonymous track from the duo that is multi-layered in both meaning and musicality. Fans old and new can hear both this November, for REMI’s only headline shows down under for 2019. Kicking off their tour with a performance at Darwin’s Railway Club on November 8, the duo will return to Melbourne for a hometown show at the Corner Hotel on November 16, before heading to The Lansdowne in Sydney on November 22 and wrapping up the following week at Brisbane’s Brightside on November 29.

A unique pairing, REMI continue to hold reign at the top of Australia’s soul and hip-hop sphere. Since emerging onto the scene in 2014, the duo have had a number of stellar collaborations including with fellow AMP-winner Sampa The Great, Manchester’s R&B/Soul singer, [ K S R ] and Jordan Rakei on their triple j feature & ARIA nominated sophomore album, Divas and Demons. A constant advocate for Melbourne’s creative community, Remi was a recent ambassador for Melbourne’s International Film Festival, working alongside the culturally iconic festival in putting Melbourne on the national and international cultural map in 2019.

Adored globally, REMI today find themselves back again in the upper echelons of rap, hip-hop and soul. A magical release available on their eponymous label, House of Beige Records, “Brain” is a fresh reminder of Remi and Sensible J’s limitless talent, matched by the soulful melodies of Lori. Don’t miss witnessing the real thing live, when they perform around the country this November.
