As the masterminds behind Splendour in the Grass and Falls Festival, the team at Secret Sounds know a thing or two about putting on a killer party. Given SXSW is generally acknowledged as the mother of all parties, it’s fitting that these forces will come together once again in 2018 for another boozy, flame-grilled shindig showcase.

Going down at Sidewinder on the 14th March from 12pm to 6pm, Secret Sounds will present a cracking line-up of local and international buzz artists ready to strut their stuff.

Headlined by recent triple j Hottest 100 kings Gang of Youths and Irish balladeer Dermot Kennedy, the two stage event will also play host to Californian hip-hop maestro DUCKWRTH, hair- raising indie rockers Starcrawler, triple j Unearthed hype queen G Flip, honest-to-goodness superstar Stella Donnelly, Manchester legends Pale Waves, Paranoia folkster Liza Anne, BBC’s Sound of 2018 finalist Nilüfer Yanya, Pharrell’s best buddy Buddy and quixotic pop upstarts Ider.

A line-up so hot it begs the question: why bother roaming the streets of Austin in search of the next big thing when they’ll all be right here in one convenient hoe-down?

Opening the Outdoor Stage will be Ider. A pair of North London based housemates, their dazzling R&B based folktronica has garnered worldwide interest and broken more than a few hearts. Their track Pulse is an ethereal delight and has been streamed over 4 million times on Spotify.

Also from London is Nilüfer Yanya. Delicate in her delivery but rising powerfully, this 22-year-old songwriter is unfussed by a turbulent world as she showcases chiming guitar-work and a hushed tenor vocal. The BBC is on board and so is a rapidly growing fanbase.

triple j has crawled all over Californian MC Buddy’s breakout single Shine, exposing his West Coast flow to an eager Australian audience. Having worked with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Freddie Gibbs and even Miley Cyrus, Buddy is signed to Pharrell Williams’ label i Am Other.

Fresh off the release of their latest EP All The Things I Never Said, Manchester marvels Pale Waves will exhibit their infectious indie-pop smarts. Described by the NME as Britain’s best new band, they’ve recently worked and toured with members of The 1975 and latest single Television Romance has clocked up nearly 4 million views on YouTube.

Liza Anne is a Nashville based songbird who deals in perfect harmonies baked in whip smart production served with a dollop of searingly honest lyricisms. She’ll ring in the afternoon with flair, drawing from her recently dropped album and exhibiting the stomping rock of radio favourite Paranoia.

Setting the Outdoor Stage alight will be Starcrawler, a remarkable team of Young Americans who effortlessly embody the glamour, sleaze and magic of their native LA. Fronted by 18-year-old Arrow De Wilde, whose on stage antics have already become legend, their signature tune I Love LA is already all over triple j and they have recently signed to the iconic Rough Trade Records.

Head indoors and you’ll catch Perth based miracle-worker Stella Donnelly. Forging a reputation for songwriting of the highest order, Stella has risen to the top with nothing but an electric guitar, a few beautiful chords and the truth. Her tunes Boys Will Be Boys and Mechanical Bull are in equal parts stunning, confrontational and totally vital, and have seen her sell out shows and share the stage with the likes of First Aid Kit.

G Flip is an insanely talented Melbournite who’ll be closing our indoor stage with her complex gems. Originally a drummer, this master of trades builds her songs by layering keys, vocals and percussion into ecstatic perfection. Her tune About You blew up triple j unearthed and has since been picked up by Pitchfork: their rave calling it a “ridiculously catch synth pop gem”.

Inspired by the likes of OutKast and N.E.R.D, South Central rapper DUCKWRTH has been turning heads as he attempts to break down the barriers between hip-hop, pop and soul. Tracks MUCHUUL. and I’M DEAD have picked up millions of streams and tours with Anderson .Paak. have increased the vibe.

On the way to selling out his debut tour of Australia, Irish songwriter Dermot Kennedy rides a wave of hype into the party. Loved by Taylor Swift and Sam Smith alike, his powerful voice and production skills have netted him a rabid following and ensured sold-out shows all over the world. His signature tunes include After Rain and Moments Passed.

What better act to bring the party home than Australia’s own superstars Gang of Youths? After landing 3 songs in the top 10 of the triple j Hottest 100 and winning 4 ARIA Awards including Album of the Year and Best Group for their second record Go Farther In Lightness, there is very little doubt that Gang of Youths are the biggest band in Australia in 2018.
