Described by Triple J’s Dave Ruby Howe as “one of the most charming bands in the country” you’d be forgiven if you were wondering whatever happened to Melbourne four-piece Ships Piano. Well wonder no more, as they emerge from a two-year hiatus, the band are about to launch their brand spanking new album at Yah Yah’s on Sat 24 November.

Comprising of Sebastian Hoppen (vocals/guitar), Liam Moran (vocals/guitar), Toby Cameron-Hooper (bass), and Yue Yamanaka-Mead (drums), they are pumped to be playing songs off Ships Piano’s album entitled Treehouse, set to be released via WAMD! Records in vinyl format and digital. Ships Piano are a mix of jangly overdriven guitars, hyperactive drums and slinky basslines. Songwriters Seb Hoppen and Liam Moran write brash, melodic songs about relationship breakdowns, unwanted houseguests and embarrassing incidents at the local pub.

Ships Piano formed in high school over a love of 90s American Post-Hardcore and 80s Australian Power Pop. They have recorded and self-released two EP’s Acrobats Tumble and Casper. Ships Piano have shared the stage with Future of the Left, Waaves, Kelley Stoltz, the Pretty Littles, Dick Diver and Panel of Judges among many others.

“Despite having a Brit-Pop feel, they sound unabashedly Australian. Think Bloc Party or Art Brut jamming in the bush with twangy guitars” Faster Louder
