Local tastemakers Astral People are thrilled to announce the return of Summer Dance – a series of outdoor parties in the luscious surroundings of Sydney’s National Art School this summer. The blissful Sunday program will feature an exceptional lineup of hand-picked artists from international pioneers to local champions, delivering the perfect soundtrack to your weekend session, with the first instalment kicking off Sunday, January 21.
Hailing from London’s underground is pioneering UK juggernaut Dan Shake, bringing his incredible live show to head the vibrant lineup. One of the first non-Detroit based artists to be signed to Moodymann’s prestigious Mahogani Music label, Shake has spent the last two years making his mark on dance-floors across Europe, both with his distinctive production and expertise in working a crowd. His 2016 release SHAKE placed Shake in a league of his own, rising to critical acclaim and becoming a firm, festival favourite.
Project Pablo, DJ moniker of Montreal-based DJ and musician Patrick Holland will bring his wide spectrum of energy and genre to the afternoon; rinsing a calibre of hybrid house and genre-splicing, floor-filling techno to the Sydney crowd. His 2015 debut full length album I Want To Believe saw the producer receive global applause; the album’s breezy, timeless and funk-soaked nature was instantly absorbed by industry and fans alike, cementing his place as a global force in electronic music.
Holding a large presence over the Sydney music scene, keeping windows down and radios up with her prime broadcasting, is FBi Radio royalty and Summer Dance alumni Adi Toohey. The local music giant will have you swimming in aural pleasures as she delivers a set mixed with jazzy house, boogie and subterranean beats alongside her always satisfying FM blends. Opening the day will see fellow Sydney DJ Fortune Taylor take to the stage, pledging deep dance grooves, obscure boogie and a collective of feel-good bits inspired from all over the world.
Having previously hosted UK legend DJ EZ, Berlin-based Palms Trax, Chicago talent Sadar Bahar and Sydney’s own Touch Sensitive, Summer Dance is growing in both profile and experience. Now in its fourth year, the Astral People and National Art School collaboration continues to be one of Sydney’s finest open-air summer celebrations; the ultimate haven for good music, good times and good vibes, centred around the historic and lush Darlinghurst location.
