KAYEX bring the goods once again today with the release of funk-filled third single ‘Toe to Toe’. An ode to originality, it’s a welcome natural progression from their successful debut singles ‘My Friends’ and ‘The Get Up’ – which have so far amassed over 1.5 million streams between them.
Inspired by the legacy left by Prince and Bowie and their infectious charisma, KAYEX set to work. “We tried to channel some of their confidence while writing ‘Toe to Toe’,” says Tom Derickx.

“Bowie wasn’t afraid to be himself and that’s what this track is about. Being yourself, not caring what people think and also giving other people permission to be themselves. We had an absolute ball writing this,” says Palassi Kailis.
Being themselves has paid off in spades so far for the Sydney via Perth duo who already have a #1 Hype Machine hit in ‘My Friends’ and a 2017 Listen Out spot in the bag. Piquing the attention of taste-makers across the country they’ve achieved triple j Unearthed rotation, love from presenters and a swathe of plays on triple j itself. Recently signing with management powerhouse Audiopaxx (L D R U, Yahtzel) and global booking masterminds Select Music (The Jungle Giants, Alice Ivy) they’ve also managed to score some serious live wins. They make their international live debut tomorrow as part of the Corona Sunsets Festival in Japan. Returning home, KAYEX support UK beat-maker SG Lewis, they’ll then bring the chill vibes to Snowtunes festival alongside the likes of Rudimental, Meg Mac and Confidence Man in August.
With more surprises before the end of 2018 and live dates to follow, it’s time to hit around the KAYEX dance floor.
