This summer Australian dance floors will play host to Korean-American DJ and producer Yaeji for the very first time.
As well as the already-announced Meredith Music Festival, Yaeji will perform at The Studio, Sydney Opera House on Saturday 1 December; in Melbourne at The Night Cat on Wednesday 5 December; and at Brisbane’s The TBC Club on Saturday 8 December.
Described by Pitchfork as “house music’s most exciting new voice”, Yaeji adds to a massive twelve months that’s already seen her release EP2, the follow-up to her self-titled 2017 debut; appear on the cover of FADER; score a spot on the BBC Sound of 2018 longlist; and land spots on the Sónar and Coachella festival line-ups.

“Yaeji is leading the way for a new wave of introspective melodic dance music.”
– i-D
.
“Listening to Yaeji’s music is like having someone whisper in your ear in the middle of a crowded club. Combining deep, rumbling subs with the softest of vocals, it’s exhilarating and soothing at the same time.”
– The Guardian
.
“Yaeji’s music retreats inwards, exploring the strange, meditative headspace of lingering at the after-hours hugging a sweaty wall or riding the subway home alone.”
– FADER
.
“Yaeji’s songwriting is funny and deeply introspective.”
– Pitchfork

On her debut EP, Yaeji merged her club influences with songwriting and hazy raps, resulting in global breakout singles “Drink I’m Sippin On” and “Raingurl”, which see her effortlessly alternate between Korean and English vocals. EP2 marks Yaeji’s ascendance as a singular and leading voice in dance, hip-hop and avant-pop music.
A remix of Drake’s ‘Passionfruit‘ during a famed Boiler Room set last year saw Yaeji begin her ascent to indie-stardom. Her songwriting avoids party clichés and instead acts as an invitation into an intimate world where cultural identity and self-reflection are explored through dreamlike house productions that morph from whispery confessionals to dancefloor burners.
Yaeji is one of the most exciting young artists on the global stage, now splitting her time between New York and Seoul. When at home in Brooklyn, she continues to host her ‘Curry in No Hurry’ dance nights, at which she serves up homemade Korean curry for friends – and fellow producers, designed to enhance the sensory connection between eating and listening.
With a live performance that is pure passion, the future is Yaeji, and the future is bright.
