Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators are back touring our fine land for the first time in 5 years. They’ve bought English Glam Rockers The Struts, plus Australian Rock Royalty, the mighty Rose Tattoo along for the ride as well. We went along for a night of Rock N Roll music.

Gloomy skies over Brisbane didn’t deter a sizeable crowd turning up to the outdoor amphitheatre of the Brisbane Riverstage to see opening act, Rose Tattoo. Legendary front man Angry Anderson has been the mainstay of this band for over 40 years now. Their brand of denim clad, straight ahead Rock N Roll has stood the test of time. Playing classic tracks such as Rock N Roll Outlaw, Bad Boy For Love, We Can’t Be Beaten & Scarred For Life, Rose Tattoo sounded great. This current line-up has been stable for awhile now & it’s always great to see original AC/DC bass player, Mark Evans, with the band. The recent addition of Ronnie Simmons has added a youthful spark. He plays hard & looks the part too. As usual, Rose Tattoo went down well in front of an Australian crowd.

Up next, The Struts. Definitely a change in style from Rose Tattoo, The Struts bring the Glam Rock side of things to the stage. Gone are the sleeve tattoo’s & blues-based Rock N Roll, instead replaced by a long-haired androgynous look, belting out energetic, dare I say, Queen inspired energy & songs. Nothing wrong with that for sure. The Struts put on a thoroughly entertaining set for the ever-increasing outdoor crowd. Singer Luke Spiller got the crowd responding & had them warmed up nicely. It’s great hearing a big PA in an open-air setting. A refreshing change from the normal indoor sound we’re generally used to at venues. The band’s 40-minute set included songs such as Primadonna Like Me, Pretty Vicious, Fallin’With Me & Could Have Been Me to name a few.

Now we come to the main course. Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators. Guns N Roses / Velvet Revolver alumni Slash needs no introduction. The man in the top hat has been a mainstay in the world of Rock N Roll since 1987. Alter Bridge alumni Myles Kennedy brings his incredible voice to the party & with Frank Sidoris (rhythm guitar), Todd Kearns (bass guitar) & Brent Fitz (drums) all onboard, this is one hell of a band. All of them are incredible musicians & performers. The band have now released four studio albums so have an extensive catalogue of songs to pick from for the setlist. After casually walking onstage around 7:45pm to the sounds of the theme from The Thing, SMKC open proceedings with a killer rendition of The River Is Rising, followed by Driving Rain & Halo. Myles Kennedy’s voice is in fine form as he prowls the stage, warmly greeting fans with a smile. Slash is Slash. Lost in his own world of riffs & shredding, he plays those Gibson Les Pauls with the precision of a master. The band are now fully warmed up & give the large crowd versions of Gone Too Far, C’est La Vie, Back From Cali, Bent To Fly, Wicked Stone, April Fool, Fill My World & World On Fire to name just a few. The rest of the band are solid performers & hold their own & some. Todd Kearns’ lead vocals on Bad Apples was a nice surprise. As was Andrew Stockdale’s (Wolfmother) guest on By The Sword. After a short break the band once again take the stage to encore with Rocket Man (Elton John cover) with Slash playing Pedal Steel guitar & close out with a blistering version of Anastasia. Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators are a road hardened live band. Yeah, their studio albums are great, but to me, this band really shine live, onstage. They’re a live band. Tonight, at the Brisbane Riverstage, they prove that point. Bravo!

About SLASH:

Slash–the iconic, GRAMMY-winning, American rock guitarist, songwriter and film producer–has amassed album sales of over 100 million copies, garnered a GRAMMY Award and seven GRAMMY nominations, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and is a New York Times Best-selling author. Slash is considered one of the greatest rock guitar players of all time and one of the most recognisable faces in pop culture worldwide. Time Magazine placed Slash at #2 (Jimi Hendrix was #1) in its list, ‘The 10 Greatest Electric Guitar Players.’ Slash created signature sounds like the guitar riff on #1 hits for Guns N’ Roses Sweet Child o’ Mine and Welcome To The Jungle. After leaving the band, Slash went on to critical acclaim with Slash’s Snakepit and global success with the supergroup Velvet Revolver before embarking on his own solo career. After landing on the top of the charts with his first solo album, Slash (2010)–which featured Ozzy Osbourne, Fergie, Myles Kennedy and more–he formed his current band Slash Ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators (SMKC)–which features Myles Kennedy (lead vocals), Brent Fitz (drums), Todd Kerns (bass/vocals) and Frank Sidoris (rhythm guitar)–who’ve been touring worldwide and making music together non-stop for over a decade. Slash Ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators (SMKC) released their debut album, the critically acclaimed Apocalyptic Love (2012) which stormed the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart debuting at #4 on the overall chart as well as the #1 Top Rock album, and spawned Slash and the band’s first-ever #1 solo radio hits You’re A Lie and Standing In The Sun. The band’s second album, World On Fire (2016) debuted to global praise and the album’s title track, World On Fire ascended to #1 at U.S. Rock Radio. In 2016, Guns N’ Roses re-united and Slash joined Axl Rose and Duff McKagan for the historic and ongoing world tour which Billboard magazine now ranks as the third highest grossing tour of all time. Slash Ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators’ most recent release is their critically–acclaimed third album Living The Dream (2018) which Rolling Stone declared “a biting blues filigree at the end of a riff, weeping solos full of long notes and boogie-woogie riffs” and the Los Angeles Times added is full of “unexpected funk, boogie, blues and garage rock influences.” Living The Dream debuted with 10, Top 10 Chart placements across the globe and fueled by the Top 5 song Driving Rain, and the single Mind Your Manners was hailed by critics as the best songs of the band’s career. By the end of SMKC’s worldwide tour in 2019, Slash Ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators had achieved seven, consecutive, Top 10 Hit singles at radio.

The group’s first new music in four years, SMKC released their vibrant new album 4 via Gibson Recordsin partnership with Sony Music Australia – charted at #2 on the Australian ARIA album chart and debuted as the #1 Most-Selling Hard Rock Album in February, 2022 and has earned the group the best critical acclaim of their career. The band’s strongest collective statement to date, 4, was co-produced by Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, John Prine, Rival Sons), and recorded at the famed RCA Studio A in Nashville, revealing a stunning, vital, sound and style, all captured live. The first single off 4The River Is Rising marked SMKC’s 8th, consecutive Top 10 hit single at radio. Rolling Stone hailed the song as “raucous,” and Billboard called it “euphoric” with “a surging main riff, dissonant hooks, an infectious chorus, and a guitar solo that conjures images of a rowdy bar brawl.” Watch and share the official video for The River Is Rising and view SMKC perform the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. 4 is SLASH’s fifth solo album overall, and his fourth with MYLES KENNEDY & THE CONSPIRATORS; watch the current videos, interviews, and making of the album clips HERE and listen to 4, HERE.
